Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy recently expressed his concern in Parliament calling for the Minister for Ambulance Services to address the ever-increasing decline of Ambulance call outs to our regional residents.
In Parliament Mr McCurdy said, “I wish to raise a concern on behalf of a Wangaratta resident who recently dialled triple zero only to be told no Ambulance would be coming.
“This local resident was in a situation where they needed urgent help and instead was told they should drive or catch a taxi to the nearest hospital. Thankfully in this situation this residents’ friend came to the rescue.”
He continued, “People are dying in Victoria waiting for an ambulance that is either too late or refuses to turn up at all; enough is enough.
“Regional residents want to be reassured that if they are in a life-threatening situation and call the ambulance – they will turn up.”
Mr McCurdy said, “My fear is that if the Andrews Government does not address this Ambulance shortage now, lives will be lost.
“This is a matter of life and death, and the Andrews Government needs to step up now and provide our regional residents the reassurance and our ambulance workers the support that is so desperately needed.”
He concluded, “In the words of a concerned local resident: “Somebody will die if this continues”.
