The Gippsland Vehicle Collection at Maffra will receive funding to renovate its kitchen and improve access to the facility if the Liberals and Nationals win the November election, The Nationals’ candidate, Gemma Rendell, has announced.
Ms Rendell visited the Gippsland Vehicle Collection for its official reopening on Sunday and paid tribute to the volunteer committee and local businesses that contributed to the recently completed renovations, which included a complete new roof and significant internal works.
“The Gippsland Vehicle Collection is a not-for-profit organisation and to have completed works of this scale, largely through their own fundraising and community support, is a credit to the hardworking members and the wider community,” Ms Rendell said.
“We tried several times to have the current Labor government contribute to the project, but apart from a few visits, nothing came of it.
“Despite the substantial work that has been completed, two important jobs remain – renovating the kitchen and improving access to the facility.
“We need a kitchen that can properly cater for the large events held here, while resealing the surrounding areas will also make the facility more accessible for people with disability and we will provide $120,000 to bring this to fruition,” she said.
State MP, Tim Bull, and Federal MP, Darren Chester, were also in attendance.
Mr Bull said The Nationals team strongly supported the Gippsland Vehicle Collection and was pleased to commit to the remaining works that would put the finishing touches on the much-improved facility.
“The volunteers have done an outstanding job and this funding will allow them to complete the remaining works and make an already impressive facility even better,” Mr Bull said.
Mr Chester said the volunteer committee deserved every accolade for completing such a significant amount of work without government funding.
“They really have done an amazing job and deserve enormous credit for what they have achieved,” Mr Chester said.
