The Nationals in government will fund a new modern fire station for Foster.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South and Leader of The Nationals, Danny O’Brien said the commitment would end years of waiting for Foster CFA volunteers operating from an old and increasingly unsuitable station.
“Captain David Jones and his team have shown remarkable patience while continuing to protect our community from a station that no longer meets their needs,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Newer fire trucks simply will not fit inside the existing station, preventing the brigade from taking advantage of upgraded appliances.
“The station is also so cramped that volunteers cannot safely get changed for a call-out while trucks are moving in and out.
“Our volunteers deserve safe, modern facilities and The Nationals in government will deliver them.”
Mr O’Brien said a site had already been identified and a long-term lease arrangement was in place for the new station.
“I have been working with the Foster community on this project for at least a decade,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The groundwork has been done, but successive Labor State Governments have failed to provide the funding needed to get construction underway.
“Our commitment to a new, three-bay station will give the brigade the certainty it has been waiting for.
“Foster CFA volunteers give up time with their families, farms and workplaces to train, prepare and respond when our community needs them.
“They should not have to keep making do with cramped and unsuitable facilities.
“The Nationals in government will give Foster’s volunteers the station they need to continue protecting our community.”
