In Parliament earlier this week, Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy requested the Minister for Environment visit the Warby Ovens National Park near Wangaratta to witness firsthand the irreversible damage caused by the Victorian Governments planned burn.
Mr McCurdy said in Parliament, “I recently met with a local resident whose property borders along the Warby Ovens National Park who confirmed that on the Labour Day long weekend, Sunday 13th March 2022 this planned burn backfired.
“This local resident explained that a “fuel reduction” planned burn was ignited and failed to achieve any meaningful fuel reduction outcomes.
“Instead, the burn destroyed thousands of old, large live and dead trees and caused significant irreparable environmental damage.”
Mr McCurdy again requested the Minister for Environment to urgently attend the Warby Ovens National Park with Mr McCurdy to understand the extent of this damage and ensure it does not happen again.
