Wangaratta’s senior citizens will have a dedicated place to connect, socialise and stay active, with a $2 million commitment under an elected Liberal and Nationals Government to deliver a new seniors’ clubhouse facility.
The Nationals Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, said the commitment would help address a longstanding gap in community infrastructure and ensure Wangaratta’s older residents have a welcoming space to come together.
“Wangaratta is one of our major regional centres, yet our seniors still don’t have a dedicated facility of their own,” Mr McCurdy said.
“For too long, this community has been waiting for a place where older residents can meet, build friendships, participate in activities and remain connected.
“Our seniors have contributed so much to our community, and they deserve a facility that recognises their contribution and supports their wellbeing.”
The $2 million commitment will support the delivery of a suitable clubhouse in partnership with the Rural City of Wangaratta, with further work to determine the best option, whether that involves a new building or the refurbishment of an existing facility.
Mr McCurdy said the commitment was part of the Liberals and Nationals’ plan to ensure regional Victoria receives its fair share of government investment.
“Regional Victorians deserve the same opportunities, facilities and support as those in metropolitan Melbourne.
“Wangaratta is a major regional hub, and it is only fair that our community receives its fair share of investment in the infrastructure that matters to local people.
“Under an elected Liberal and Nationals Government, we will back regional communities, deliver practical outcomes and invest in the places that bring people together.
“This commitment is about more than a building. It is about giving our seniors a place to belong, strengthening community connections and ensuring Wangaratta remains a great place to live at every stage of life.”
