The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, has announced that a Nationals and Liberals Government will provide funding to replace the roof at the Murrayville Community Health Centre, helping secure the future of vital health services in the remote Mallee community.
Age and wear and tear have taken their toll on the building, with the roof leaking and riddled with large holes. The leaks have caused damp and mould, while pigeons living in the roof space have added to the problems. The roof urgently needs replacing to ensure health professionals can continue delivering essential services from the centre.
“Murrayville is a small, tight-knit farming community and they are incredibly proactive in looking after their own health needs,” Ms Benham said.
“They have worked hard to attract allied health professionals, a nurse practitioner, physiotherapists and social workers who provide vital care locally. It would be devastating for the community to lose these services after putting so much effort into attracting the professionals they need. These professionals and their patients deserve a building that is safe and fit for purpose.”
The Health Centre is home to the Murrayville Memorial Bush Nursing Hospital, with Mallee Track Health and Community Service and Mallee Border Health delivering services from the site.
“The people of Murrayville are proactive and resilient, but they cannot be expected to fix a failing roof out of their own pockets. The Labor Government continues to deny their requests for support, which is simply unacceptable,” Ms Benham said.
Ms Benham said Murrayville’s ageing health facility highlighted the need for greater investment in regional communities.
“Regional Victoria currently receives just 12 per cent of Victorian Government infrastructure spending.
“The Nationals’ Fair Share Guarantee will ensure 25 per cent of new Victorian Government infrastructure spending goes to regional Victoria, helping communities get a fairer share of the investment they need.
“Only a Nationals and Liberals Government will ensure regional communities like Murrayville get their fair share of the infrastructure investment they need to keep vital local services running.”
