The Nationals have launched Fair Share Week, with MPs and candidates around the state speaking with their communities about the issues that matter most and how they will be addressed by The Nationals’ Fair Share Guarantee.
The Nationals’ Fair Share Guarantee will direct 25 per cent of all new Victorian Government infrastructure spending to regional Victoria, matching the 25 per cent of Victorians who live there.
Analysis from the Parliamentary Budget Office shows regional Victoria currently receives just 12 per cent of infrastructure funding, despite being home to a quarter of the state’s population.
For communities across the Mildura electorate, the infrastructure gap is clear, from roads in need of significant investment to Mildura Base Public Hospital, which needs to be expanded to meet the needs of our growing community.
The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, said the electorate had been taken for granted for too long.
“People across the Mildura electorate deserve their fair share of infrastructure investment.
“We need better roads, upgraded health facilities and investment in the projects our growing communities rely on.
“Fair Share means regional Victoria gets a genuine guarantee of investment, rather than being left to fight for scraps.”
The Fair Share Guarantee builds on The Nationals’ $5 billion plan to repair and rebuild Victoria’s neglected roads and the $180 million commitment to expand and upgrade Mildura Base Public Hospital.
“These commitments are about making sure regional communities like ours have the infrastructure we need to grow and thrive,” Ms Benham said.
“But it is also about making sure regional Victorians are not continually asked to pay more.
“That is why The Nationals will scrap Labor’s insidious Emergency Services Tax which is hitting farmers, homeowners and businesses across regional Victoria.
“We deserve a government that invests in regional communities and recognises the contribution we make to Victoria.
“The Nationals in government will make sure regional Victoria finally gets its fair share.”
