Danny O’Brien MP – The Nationals and Liberals commit to new Sale College

The Nationals and Liberals in government will deliver improved facilities for public secondary students and teachers with funding for construction of a new, consolidated Sale College at Cobains Road.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South and Leader of The Nationals, Danny O’Brien said the commitment would bring the school’s two campuses together on a single, modern site.

“With land already secured and planning completed, this project is ready to proceed,” Mr O’Brien said.

“Students, parents and teachers have waited long enough for modern facilities that bring the whole school community together.

“The Nationals and Liberals in government will fund stage one construction in our first budget, putting Sale College on the path to full consolidation.”

Mr O’Brien said the commitment followed years of advocacy by the school community, Wellington Shire Council, the Committee for Wellington and the wider Sale community.

“I have been working alongside the College and our community for many years to secure a new campus, including helping secure $3 million for early works and master planning in 2021.

“The case for consolidation has long been clear. Operating across two campuses creates challenges for staff and students, while the existing facilities are old and tired.”

Shadow Minister for Education, Brad Rowswell, said Sale students and staff deserve better.

“A single, modern campus will give students better learning facilities and allow the school to bring its teaching, resources and activities together in one place.

“This commitment will turn years of planning and community advocacy into construction of the new school.

“Sale families deserve quality local education facilities and The Nationals and Liberals will deliver the next step towards a new Sale College.”
