This October, we celebrate the 43rd Victorian Seniors Festival, a statewide program recognising the valuable role older people play in our communities.
Shadow Minister for Disability, Ageing, Careers and Volunteers, Tim Bull, said the festival was a chance to embrace positive ageing and highlight the importance of connection.
“Seniors Week is about celebrating the contribution of older Victorians and the wisdom, energy, and kindness they share with us all,” Mr Bull said.
“It’s also about promoting positive ageing and encouraging people to stay active, social, and confident in this stage of life.”
Mr Bull said the festival provides countless opportunities to meet new people, enjoy social activities, and take part in something new.
“We know that connection is one of the keys to good health, and this festival brings people together through events, dances, and celebrations right across Victoria.”
To make it easier for people to participate, Seniors Card holders can enjoy free travel on all public transport from Sunday, October 5 to Sunday, October 12.
“Our seniors have given so much to our communities, and this is one way we can give back, by encouraging participation and celebrating their contribution,” Mr Bull said.
The full festival program is now available via the website https://www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au/festival, with events running throughout October across both the city and regional Victoria.
