A group of Gippsland hardware businesses have initiated a ‘Sponsor a Bushfire Recovery Kit’ program to assist people impacted by East Gippsland bushfires.
The Bushfire Recovery Kits contain vital equipment to assist people who have lost their homes and sheds in the East Gippsland bushfires.
The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region Melina Bath said she was approached by Andrew Graham of H Hardware in Traralgon to help facilitate the program which operated during Black Saturday in 2009.
“The program encourages businesses, community groups and individuals to sponsor a Fire Recovery Kit for distribution to fire impacted home owners,” said Ms Bath.
“Over 300 homes and/or sheds have been lost this summer and there is a mammoth clean up task ahead.
“Gippslanders have dug deep and this program offers another practical way to continue supporting East Gippsland families.”
The Bushfire Recovery Kits are purchased through one of the participating hardware stores at a cost of $330, with a retail value of $586.
Ms Bath said this is a simple fundraiser which provides practical support.
“We will work with local government and support agencies to ensure kits are delivered to people who have lost their homes and/or shedding,” said Ms Bath.
“I congratulate Andrew and the team at H Hardware Traralgon for initiating this wonderful program and sincerely thank participating hardware stores namely, J & D Building Supplies – Orbost; Mallacoota Home Hardware and Lakes H Hardware,” said Ms Bath.
“After spending time assisting the clean up of properties in East Gippsland, I understand the need for this equipment.
“These Bushfire Recovery Kits will provide necessary basic essentials for getting people back on their feet.”
