Australia’s transport industry can add another licenced driver to their log with Senator Bridget McKenzie sitting and passing her Heavy Rigid Truck Licence.
Supported by Transport Women Australia Limited, Senator McKenzie completed her training at Wodonga TAFE, which included both theory and practical components.
“This licence gives me a lot of pride and also a lot of respect for the tens of thousands of truck drivers across the country,” Senator McKenzie said.
Transport Women Australia Limited Chair, Jacquelene Brotherton said Transport Women Australia Limited is both proud and delighted to have supported Senator McKenzie to obtain her Heavy Rigid licence.
“We hope that it will give her a much greater understanding of the licensing process and some of the issues that truck drivers face on the road,” Ms Brotherton said.
“It may also encourage more females to consider following in her footsteps. We are especially proud that she chose not to obtain the licence in a truck with an automatic gearbox.”
Senator McKenzie said completing the Heavy Rigid Licence training at Wodonga TAFE shone a whole new light on what truck drivers face on our roads every day.
“Whether transporting goods from farm to port or from factory to stores, our truckies keep Australia moving and we should all be grateful for the service they provide us – I know I am,” Senator McKenzie said.
“A huge thank you to Transport Women Australia and Wodonga TAFE for the support and encouragement they have provided me, and many others, to give it a shot and complete the course.
“Australia needs more truck drivers so if you’re looking for a career change or have been thinking about transport, I encourage you to do the Heavy Rigid Licence training.”
