Labor has run out of time and excuses and must immediately release the findings of Ken Lay’s report into a second injecting room in Melbourne’s CBD.
The Minister for Mental Health, Gabrielle Williams, today again refused to go into any detail on the findings, saying only that the report would be released in “due course”.
Labor received the report five weeks ago, yet businesses and residents nearby the proposed site remain in the dark.
Café owners in the iconic Degraves St deserve to know now if Labor plans to go ahead with an injecting room in a $40m building purchased for that specific purpose.
Shadow Minister for Mental Health, Emma Kealy, said it was time for the secrecy to end.
“Ken Lay has produced four different versions of his injecting room report over the past three years, but even now it’s finally been accepted by the Government, Labor insist on keeping it hidden from Victorians,” Ms Kealy said.
“No more excuses – Labor must immediately release Lay’s report, then publish their response in coming months as is usual Parliamentary custom and practice.”
