With the state election just weeks away, The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad has outlined the practical policies that the party will bring to regional Victoria if elected.
“The Liberals and Nationals have set out their plan for a fresh start for Victoria, with a focus on reducing crime, lowering costs and delivering better services and infrastructure for regional communities,” Ms Broad said.
“Our plan will give Victoria a fresh start and make sure regional communities get their fair share.”
Key priorities include:
- A Fair Share Guarantee – ensuring at least 25 per cent of all new Victorian Government infrastructure investment is spent in regional Victoria, including on public transport, hospitals and schools.
- Better, safer roads – investing $5 billion to repair and rebuild Victoria’s roads and establishing Better Roads Victoria to rebuild technical expertise in road construction and maintenance.
- More police and stronger laws – putting 3000 additional police on the streets and introducing stronger laws to deliver consequences for criminal behaviour and improve community safety.
- Lower taxes – scrapping Labor’s emergency services tax, schools tax, holiday tax and GP tax, while reducing the burden of land tax.
- More affordable home ownership – abolishing stamp duty for first home buyers purchasing properties up to $1 million.
- Stronger regional health services – investing in the regional health workforce and upgrading regional hospitals.
- Honest, accountable government – stopping waste, addressing corruption and restoring transparency and accountability in the management of taxpayers’ money.
“Regional Victorians have been asking for better roads, stronger health services, safer communities and a government that respects taxpayers’ money. This plan sets out a clear pathway to deliver those priorities.
“Politics should be about more than saying what you are against. It should be about having a clear plan for what you will do. The Nationals have a plan for regional Victoria, and we are ready to deliver a fresh start.”
