Upgrades to Cavendish Primary School’s outdoor learning space will become a reality under an elected Liberal and Nationals Government.
The Nationals Member for Lowan Emma Kealy visited the school this week to announce a $250,000 commitment towards the school’s plans to create an inclusive and engaging space, as well as a dedicated outdoor space for neurodiverse students.
Ms Kealy said the school’s current outdoor space had degraded significantly in recent years, with new asphalt and retaining walls desperately needed to ensure students continued to have access to a safe space for outdoor learning.
“The school aims to not only upgrade the infrastructure, but also include elements of sensory play such as plants, water, sand and music play in its outdoor learning area. They hope to run outdoor lessons across all curriculum areas, including the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program,” she said.
“The school has an indoor space dedicated to supporting students to reset when they become dysregulated. This commitment will ensure a complementary outdoor space where students can learn and also build positive coping strategies.
“Casterton Primary School is the oldest school to remain on its original site in Victoria, and has students who are fifth generation enrolments. This commitment from the Liberals and Nationals will ensure a dynamic and engaging learning environment for generations of students to come.”
Ms Kealy said the commitment was part of the Liberal and Nationals’ Fair Share Guarantee, locking in 25 per cent of the state’s infrastructure investment for regional Victoria.
“Cavendish should not have to compete with Melbourne for every dollar of infrastructure investment,” she said.
“Regional Victoria deserves its fair share, and this commitment is about backing Cavendish students to deliver the inclusive and engaging education spaces they deserve.”
