New changerooms at Island Park and upgrades for Ess Lagoon will become a reality for Casterton residents if the Liberals and Nationals are elected to government in November.
Member for Lowan Emma Kealy visited Casterton this week to announce the commitments, which will benefit numerous user groups at the park, and the many locals and tourists who use the adjacent lagoon.
Ms Kealy said the changerooms at the park’s main oval were not only used year-round by sporting clubs, but also when the park became a staging area for fire response in the region.
However, they are no longer fit for purpose.
“The Liberals and Nationals in government will provide $1.5 million to upgrade the changerooms, which will give clubs including the football and netball, tennis, bowling, cricket, croquet and little athletics clubs a modern, compliant facility that meets their needs and caters for all participants,” Ms Kealy said.
“Ess Lagoon is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Many RVs visit the lagoon daily, and it’s also a popular spot for locals to fish and enjoy the outdoors.
“However with water levels becoming critically low in recent times, upgraded drainage is needed to ensure a stable amount of water in the lagoon.
“The Liberals and Nationals’ investment in this project will ensure Ess Lagoon can continue to service the needs of the town and also be a drawcard for tourists into the future.”
Ms Kealy commended Glenelg Shire Council and locals for their advocacy to improve community facilities.
“These commitments are part of the Liberal and Nationals’ Fair Share Guarantee, locking in 25 per cent of the state’s infrastructure investment for regional Victoria,” she said.
“I look forward to continuing to work with the Casterton community to make these upgrades a reality.”
