Local secondary schools will have the chance to explore horticulture opportunities through a Nursery and Garden Industry Victoria program next year.
NGIV will continue to deliver its successful ‘Branch Out’ program in 2026, providing students a chance to see what the industry has to offer and to learn from our local plant producers and experts.
The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy, said she was pleased to support NGIV’s work in encouraging students to explore careers in this vital industry.
“Horticulture is an exciting and rewarding field, perfect for young people who want to combine hands-on work with science and creativity,” she said.
Founded in 1903, the NGIV represents more than 1500 horticultural business members across Victoria. For more than a century, the organisation has shaped and supported the sector, promoted industry standards, and fostered workforce development.
The ‘Branch Out’ program was designed by NGIV to introduce students in years 7–10 to learning experiences that showcase the variety of career paths and gain practical insights into the horticulture industry.
Ms Kealy has provided information to all secondary schools across Lowan this week, outlining how they can participate in the 2026 ‘Branch Out’ program.
“I encourage every school to take up this opportunity, support NGIV, and give students the best possible start to a career in horticulture,” she said.
