The most vulnerable regional Victorians in need of drug and alcohol continue to be snubbed by the Allan Labor Government.
Communities are crying out for help and waitlists grow – yet there is nowhere to go.
Can you believe there are no adult residential rehabilitation beds in Mildura, Shepparton, Bendigo, Warrnambool or in the Latrobe Valley? It is incredibly sad.
Labor is putting up another barrier for those seeking help outside the city limits and has run out of excuses.
Since September 2020, waitlists in Victoria have soared by 93 per cent. On any given day in June and July this year, more than 4,600 people were waiting for treatment.
Without any local services, regional Victorians are once again copping the brunt of the Allan Labor Government’s mental health mismanagement.
Families are heartbroken and deeply concerned for loved ones desperate to break their addiction, but stranded on a waitlist.
The mental health tax, which was designed to help ease the problem, raises almost $1 billion a year.
It is time that money went where it is needed most – to regional Victorians in desperate need of help close to home.
