Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has visited Mitchell House in Morwell with State Member for Morwell Martin Cameron, meeting staff and learning more about the care and support provided to local residents.
Mitchell House provides residential aged care, respite care and palliative care, with 56 rooms and a team that includes registered nurses, personal care assistants and other support staff.
Mr Chester said aged care workers played an important role in supporting older Australians and their families.
“Our older Gippslanders have helped build and shape the communities we enjoy today, and they deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and compassion as they age,” Mr Chester said.
“It was great to visit Mitchell House with Martin Cameron and meet some of the dedicated people who provide that care every day.
“Aged care workers do incredibly important work, often supporting people and families through some of the most challenging and vulnerable stages of life.
“The care they provide goes well beyond the practical day-to-day support. It is also about companionship, reassurance and helping residents maintain their independence and quality of life.”
Mr Chester said access to quality aged care services close to home was particularly important in regional communities.
“Families want confidence that their loved ones can receive high-quality care in their own community, close to the people and places they know,” Mr Chester said.
“Facilities like Mitchell House are an important part of our regional health and community services network.
“Thank you to the Mitchell House team for taking the time to show us around and discuss the work they are doing for older people and families across the Latrobe Valley.”
