The Nationals and Liberals’ Fair Share Guarantee will ensure regional Victorians receive their fair share of infrastructure, after new Parliamentary Budget Office analysis confirmed Labor was continuing to hold back investment in regional Victoria.
Regional Victorians continue to be left behind, with new figures confirming the Allan Labor Government’s investment in the regions has fallen to 11.9 per cent, down from 12 per cent last year.
The gap is also widening, with per capita infrastructure investment in metropolitan Victoria now 72.5 per cent higher than in regional Victoria, up from 56.6 per cent in the previous budget.
Leader of The Nationals and Shadow Minister for Regional Development and Liveability, Danny O’Brien said the figures showed a growing divide between Melbourne and the regions.
“Regional Victoria is home to 25 per cent of the population, yet we are now receiving less than 12 per cent of the investment,” Mr O’Brien said.
“That gap was already unfair, and it is now getting worse.”
The Parliamentary Budget Office analysis of the 2026–27 State Budget confirmed a continued pattern of declining regional investment under the Allan Labor Government compared to previous budgets.
The Nationals and Liberals have committed to a Fair Share Guarantee, ensuring at least 25 per cent of all new infrastructure expenditure is directed to regional Victorian projects.
Mr O’Brien said the policy was about restoring balance and ensuring all parts of the state were properly considered in infrastructure spending.
“Regional Victorians deserve fairness when it comes to infrastructure investment,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Our Fair Share Guarantee will ensure investment reflects population share, so regional Victoria receives its fair share.”
“Only The Nationals and Liberals will deliver a fair deal for regional communities and ensure they are no longer treated as an afterthought.”
