The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien has sought answers from the Allan Labor Government over the continued closure of the southern section of Limeburners Walk at Walkerville.
Mr O’Brien raised the issue in Parliament after being contacted by concerned local residents about the future of the track, which links Walkerville North and Walkerville South.
“I have been approached by members of the Walkerville community who are understandably concerned about the ongoing closure of this important coastal link,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Limeburners Walk has long provided practical access between the two beaches, particularly for families seeking a safer swimming option.”
In response, the Minister for Environment has now confirmed that the section will remain closed on safety grounds.
Mr O’Brien said while the response is no doubt disappointing for many residents and visitors, safety considerations must be taken seriously.
“The Minister has advised that geotechnical investigations identified ongoing and significant landslip and erosion risks.
“No one wants to see public access reduced, but decisions about coastal infrastructure must ultimately prioritise community safety.
The northern section of Limeburners Walk remains open and includes improved access following the installation of a new pedestrian bridge in November 2025.
Access to the lime kilns lookout remains available from the Walkerville South end, and between the beaches at low tide along the shore.
Mr O’Brien said he would continue to engage with the community and monitor the situation.
“As always, I will continue to advocate for transparency around these decisions and ensure local voices are heard.”
