The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien says Gippslanders will finally get their fair share of infrastructure funding when The Nationals form government.
Under The Nationals’ new Fair Share Guarantee, regional Victoria will receive 25 per cent of all new government infrastructure spending, reflecting the fact that one in four Victorians live in regional communities.
Mr O’Brien said Gippsland communities had missed out for too long while Melbourne received the bulk of government funding.
“For years, Labor has ignored regional Victoria while pouring billions into Melbourne projects,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Gippslanders pay their taxes like everyone else, but too often we are left with crumbling roads, under-pressure hospitals, rundown sporting facilities and growing communities missing the infrastructure they need.
“We’re 25 per cent of the state’s population, under The Nationals we’ll get 25 per cent of the investment — guaranteed.”
Mr O’Brien said the Fair Share Guarantee would help deliver better roads, hospitals, schools, emergency services and community infrastructure across Gippsland.
“Whether it’s finally building new fire stations for Foster and Korumburra, improving local roads with projects like the Traralgon bypass or investing in growing communities through funding for Mirboo North’s sporting stadium or a new campus for Sale College, Gippsland deserves its fair share.”
Independent Parliamentary Budget Office analysis found less than 12 per cent of infrastructure spending in the 2025-26 State Budget was allocated to regional Victoria.
“This is about fairness. Gippslanders deserve the same opportunities and quality infrastructure as people in Melbourne.
“Only The Nationals in government will guarantee Gippsland gets its fair share.”
