Under a Nationals and Liberals Government, serious offenders will face tougher sentencing and those who break bail for serious offences will be sent to jail.
Under the Allan Government, criminal offending is at an all-time high as Labor’s revolving-door bail system allows offenders back on the street time and again.
As part of our Safer Communities Plan, The Nationals and Liberals will expand the number of serious offences subject to Adult Crime, Adult Time laws from eight to 20, and include burglary, serious assault and attempted murder.
We will introduce a strict one-strike bail rule for serious offences, meaning offenders on bail who re-offend will be automatically denied bail. And we will extend bail laws so youth offenders who breach bail conditions are subject to the same penalties.
This follows our commitment to hiring 3,000 more police and reopening police stations that Labor closed or put on reduced hours. We will legislate Jack’s Law to empower police to get knives and machetes off the streets, and we will invest in youth diversion programs to steer young people away from crime.
Only The Nationals and Liberals have a comprehensive plan to end Labor’s crime crisis and keep regional Victorians safe.
