The Allan Labor Government’s neglect of Victoria’s roads has left families and businesses facing dangerous conditions, damage bills in the thousands and almost no chance of compensation.
Government data revealed that out of more than 1,700 road damage claims lodged in the past two years, only one per cent were approved – leaving frustrated drivers out of pocket.
Leader of The Nationals and Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Danny O’Brien, said the situation reflected a government with the wrong priorities.
“It’s the absolutely disastrous state of our roads that people are so frustrated about – particularly at a time when they see billions wasted on city mega-projects while country roads are left to crumble,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Families shouldn’t be forced to risk their safety and pay huge repair bills because Labor can’t do the basics and maintain our roads properly. It’s patch on patch on patch and it’s not good enough.”
Mr O’Brien said regional Victorians deserved a government that puts people before politics.
“Whether it’s getting to work, dropping kids at school or moving freight to market – safe roads are essential. Labor must stop neglecting country Victoria and fix our roads.
“Labor can’t manage our roads and Victorians are paying the price.”
