The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien, is pushing for progress on the next stage of coastal erosion works at Loch Sport.
Mr O’Brien said local residents had welcomed the construction of groynes near the Seagull Drive boat ramp last year, but questions remained about further works promised by the Allan Labor Government.
“In August last year, the then-Minister advised that additional groynes were being designed for the western side of the Seagull Drive boat ramp and that construction would commence once those designs were finalised,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Since then, residents have been asking what progress has been made and when they can expect to see the next stage of works get underway.
“Loch Sport residents have fought for action on coastal erosion for many years and deserve clear information about what happens next.”
Mr O’Brien has now written to the Minister for Environment, Enver Erdogan, seeking an update on the progress of the design work and the anticipated timeline for construction.
“The community has been more than patient and it is important that momentum is maintained.
“The groynes installed near the boat ramp were a positive step and there is broad support for continuing works that help protect the foreshore and important community infrastructure.
“I have asked the Minister to provide a clear update on where the project is up to and when the community can expect further works to commence.”
Mr O’Brien said he would continue advocating on behalf of Loch Sport residents.
“Coastal erosion remains a significant concern for local residents and I will continue working with the community to ensure this issue remains a priority for the Government.”
