Victorians have until 31 July to claim the State Government’s 20 per cent registration rebate, but many regional residents are still finding the process confusing and difficult to navigate.
While the rebate will provide some welcome relief for families already struggling through a cost-of-living crisis, the reality is many people across regional Victoria are either unaware they are eligible or are being forced to battle another complicated government process to access support.
Too often, government systems assume everyone has reliable internet access, an email address, and confidence navigating online platforms. That is simply not the reality for many elderly residents and regional communities.
To be eligible for the rebate, motorists must have paid registration for a light vehicle or motorcycle for personal use between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026. Eligible Victorians can claim the rebate on up to two vehicles registered in their name, regardless of whether registration was paid in full or by instalments.
Claims can be made through the Service Victoria website or app using a Service Victoria account.
For those without internet access or a Service Victoria account, applications can also be made by calling 13 28 42, selecting Option 1 and then Option 2 to speak directly with a customer service representative.
I encourage anyone who believes they may be eligible to ensure they submit their claim before the 31 July deadline.
Importantly, if you are having trouble navigating the process, my electorate office is here to help.
Residents are welcome to contact my office on 03 5762 1600 or drop in for assistance with processing their rebate claim.
If you are unable to travel to the office, please email through your location details so my team can notify you when I am next holding mobile office visits or “office on the road” sessions in your area. We will do our best to coordinate support locally and help ensure nobody misses out simply because the process is too difficult.
