The Longwood fires have been amongst the most devastating in Victoria with widespread loss of stock, many homes and sheds destroyed and tragically the loss of a man’s life.
A huge thank you to the communities who have pulled together to help those who have been affected, and to the CFA volunteers who put their lives on the line to fight the fires.
As the clean-up work begins it is absolutely urgent that the Federal Government play its role in providing the necessary Disaster Recovery Funding payments so that those families whose livelihoods have been destroyed are immediately assisted.
“We need urgent action to ensure there is no delay in getting these payments to people who are waiting for support,” Euroa MP Annabelle Cleeland said.
Senator McKenzie and Annabelle Cleeland also requested Telstra to put boots on the ground in towns that have been burnt out.
“Towns that are without communication include Highlands, Ruffy, Terip Terip and Gobur,” Ms Cleeland said.
“These are small towns, but having no communication with the outside world is very distressing for the residents.”
People are having to resort to using triple zero to access temporary communication so that residents can get on with recovery.
