Nationals Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, captured the importance of adequately funding community sport in Parliament this week. Community sport plays an integral part in brining communities together in the Ovens Valley, and regional Victoria more broadly.
Mr McCurdy said, “Sporting facilities are an incredibly important part of all of our communities, in every region.
“We cannot even put it in dollar terms when we talk about how much it is an investment or how much it is worth to our economy. It is about how much it underpins our communities.”
He continued, “I am currently working with the Myrtleford Football Netball Club who are experiencing a massive drainage issue. They are not alone either.
“In places like Cobram, with the footy club, the Auskick kids cannot even see the ball because the lights are so poor. The Everton tennis courts, the Bright FNC timekeepers’ box – the list goes on. They all desperately need upgrades.
“All you have to do is come to towns across the Ovens Valley electorate and see that they continually miss out.”
He concluded, “It’s time the Victorian Government reassess where the funds really are going and give regional Victoria their fair share.
