Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy is concerned that the Victorian Government has allowed Sambar Deer population to grow out of control in areas across the Ovens Valley electorate.
In Parliament Mr McCurdy said, “During my mobile office in July 2022 I travelled the length and breadth of the Ovens Valley.
“Throughout my travels I was approached by many residents who explained that the sambar deer population is rapidly growing out of control.”
He continued, “One particular constituent flagged me down between Bright and Harrietville to show me the damage done to his car during the middle of the day from hitting a sambar deer.
“I have seen more and more dead sambar on the roadsides just two weeks ago outside of Peechelba on the Yarrawonga road.”
Mr McCurdy added, “The Victorian Government needs to take this more seriously, lives are at risk. If this happened in Richmond this would be solved immediately.
“It’s time for the Victorian Government to act now.”
