The Allan Labor Government’s proposed fuel cap is more froth and bubbles, with motorists promised savings that simply don’t stack up.
Premier Allan has claimed drivers will save $333 a year, yet her own department cannot confirm where those numbers came from.
Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs, Tim McCurdy, said national evidence shows the policy is built on shaky ground.
“A Federal Inquiry into petrol pricing warned that state governments should be very careful about intervention, because it can distort an already competitive market,” Mr McCurdy said.
“The committee examining fuel pricing did not recommend the WA model for other states. While it reduced volatility, it led to higher average prices overall.”
“Victorians are under cost-of-living pressures and deserve real relief, not empty promises from a government more focused on spin than savings.
“Until then, motorists will continue paying the price for hollow announcements.”
