The Allan Government’s decision to order 150 gigalitres of drinking water from the Wonthaggi desalination plant is set to add almost $30 a year to water bills across the state.
This comes at a time when Victorians are already managing the burden of Labor’s cost-of-living crisis.
“This decision will unfairly push water bills higher for all Victorians,” Shadow Minister for Water, Tim McCurdy said.
“The Allan Labor Government has already inflicted record debt upon Victorians, introduced more than 60 new and increased taxes, mismanaged our fuel reserves that have seen petrol prices skyrocket, and are now whacking Victorians with higher water bills.”
The government is also refusing to provide answers on future water restrictions, with Minister for Water, Gayle Tierney, dodging questions in parliament.
“The government must come clean and provide clarity for Victorians on potential water restrictions and future water costs,” Mr McCurdy said.
“Water security and affordability go hand in hand, yet this government is failing on both.”
