Cobram residents requiring dialysis will have greater access to vital healthcare closer to home, with a $4 million commitment under an elected Liberal and Nationals Government to establish a dedicated dialysis facility in Cobram.
The Nationals’ Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, said the commitment was an important step towards delivering better regional healthcare and ensuring local patients and their families no longer face the same burden of travelling to other towns for essential treatment.
“This is fantastic news for Cobram and the wider community. Local patients deserve access to quality healthcare close to home, without the added stress, cost and exhaustion of travelling long distances for treatment,” Mr McCurdy said.
“I have been incredibly passionate about delivering dialysis services for Cobram, and I’m proud to see this commitment put forward as part of our plan to strengthen regional healthcare.
“For patients who need regular dialysis, being able to access treatment closer to home can make a real difference to their quality of life. It means more time with family, less time on the road and better support for people managing complex health needs.”
The $4 million commitment will support the establishment of a dialysis facility in Cobram, including the necessary modifications to an existing building and the installation of six dialysis chairs and associated equipment.
Mr McCurdy said the announcement reflected the Liberals and Nationals’ commitment to delivering a fair share for regional Victoria and ensuring regional communities are not left behind when it comes to essential health services.
“Where you live should not determine your access to healthcare. Regional families deserve the same opportunity to receive treatment close to home as those living in metropolitan areas.
“Under an elected Liberal and Nationals Government, we will invest in practical solutions that improve access to healthcare, support regional patients and deliver better outcomes for our communities.
“This is about putting patients first and making sure Cobram and surrounding communities get the healthcare investment they deserve.”
