Twelve months on from locals requesting the Victorian Labor Government to immediately repaint lane markings at the dual-lane Princes Highway roundabout near the Bairnsdale Hospital and RSL – it has again been raised.
Gippsland East Nationals’ MP, Tim Bull and candidate Gemma Rendell, said the problem was first reported in 2025, with a respected local driving instructor personally advocating for repairs on multiple occasions.
“Nothing has happened and the line markings have deteriorated to the point where many motorists unfamiliar with the area no longer realise it’s a two-lane roundabout, creating unnecessary confusion and danger,” Ms Rendell said.
“They’re now so faded that many drivers naturally assume it is a single-lane roundabout.
“Vehicles, including trucks and caravans, regularly drift between lanes because the guidance markings are almost impossible to see.
“When experienced driving instructors are warning that an accident is only a matter of time, the government should be listening.
“This is not an expensive project. It simply requires the lines to be repainted before someone is seriously injured,” she said.
Mr Bull has asked the Minister for Roads and Road Safety to commit to completing the works before the warmer weather brings more motorists to the area.
