Petitions containing signatures of nearly 1500 people from South Gippsland have been tabled in State Parliament by The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien.
Mr O’Brien has tabled a further 615 petitions from Foster and district residents opposed to the possible relocation of South Gippsland Water (SGW) from Foster.
“This is a fantastic demonstration of support from the Foster community for the SGW corporate headquarters remaining in Foster, as it comes on the back of an initial 1054 signatures tabled on petitions earlier in the year.
“I’m pleased that SGW and the state government are reviewing their future corporate plans, but they are on notice that the community won’t accept the relocation of the head office from Foster.”
Mr O’Brien also tabled petitions containing 837 signatures calling for better public transport options in Poowong.
“We tried this campaign during the last parliament but the Andrews Labor Government has done nothing to address the needs of the Poowong community.
“Given the population of Poowong is just over 300, to have 837 people from the surrounding district sign this petition suggests they also support better public transport options.
“At the very least I am calling for a trial of running V/Line coaches through Poowong to gauge the level of demand and ensure public transport availability to Melbourne and along the South Gippsland Highway.”
