Nationals Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, recently highlighted key concerns recorded about Labor’s lack of funding for education in the Ovens Valley, with particular focus on the long overdue upgrades at the Yarrawonga P-12 College.
The Stage 2 upgrades were originally proposed and budgeted for by the Coalition Government in 2014, before the Andrews Labor Government cut the funding.
Speaking on this in Parliament, Mr McCurdy said, “The notion that this Government governs for all Victorians is a complete fabrication.
“We know that there is pork-barrelling in terms of education, our regional areas, as they are well and truly behind what other city electorates have been receiving.
“Where does Yarrawonga fit into the Government’s planned ‘unprecedented’ investment? It has been neglected. Labor… is missing in action.”
Mr McCurdy said that the Coalition committed $7.6 million to complete Stage 2, however, some of the money was then pulled by the Government.
“We are not a third world country in regional Victoria, the Andrews Labor Government has to do more than a regional maintenance blitz. We need real investment.”
Mr McCurdy extended an invitation to the Minister for Education to visit Yarrawonga and see the growth in the region.
“I will take the Minister for a drive around Yarrawonga, and extend that invitation to the Shadow Minister for Education, and let’s see who is really interested in seeing that communities like Yarrawonga get looked after.”
