Victoria’s health crisis continues to worsen as new figures reveal Victoria’s hospitals are collectively almost $1.5 billion in debt.
Internal financing records reported today have revealed the dramatic deficit, which is anticipated to grow to $3 billion by the end of this financial year.
This report comes as recent annual reports confirmed more than a dozen regional health services reported operating losses in the 2022-23 financial year, on top of the Victorian Department of Health’s $415.5 million deficit over this same period.
Deputy Leader of The Nationals, Emma Kealy, said: “Labor can’t manage money and frontline health services are suffering as a consequence.
“Victorians deserve a properly managed and financially sustainable health system but are once again paying the price for Labor’s incompetence.
“Is it any wonder why surgery waiting lists are at record highs when hospitals across our state are collectively operating at billions of dollars in deficit?”
