The Nationals and Liberals will crack down on crime by recruiting 3,000 additional Victoria Police officers, if elected in November.
Closed police stations will be reopened, roster vacancies filled, and community safety restored with more cops on the beat.
Half of the 3,000 recruits will be made up of experienced officers from the United Kingdom, Ireland and New Zealand, replicating a successful scheme in Western Australia, with relocation allowances of $5,000 per successful applicant, backed by a recruitment campaign.
Under Labor, cops are down but crime is up. Police rosters have more than 1,500 vacancies, over 40 police stations are closed or operating on reduced hours, and criminal offending has surged to an all-time high.
An additional 3,000 police officers strengthens The Nationals’ commitment to making our communities safe again.
We will introduce Break Bail, Face Jail for repeat offenders, legislate Jack’s Law to empower police to get knives and machetes off the streets, and invest in youth diversion programs to steer young people away from crime.
Only The Nationals and Liberals have a comprehensive plan to end Labor’s crime crisis and keep Victorians safe.
