A Jess Wilson-led Liberal and Nationals Government will get Ballarat’s growing suburbs moving by duplicating Dyson Drive between Remembrance Drive and Ballarat-Carngham Road.
The project will duplicate Dyson Drive from its current two lanes to four, and deliver intersection upgrades, including signalised intersections to improve safety, manage traffic more efficiently and provide safer access for local residents entering and exiting the road.
Dyson Drive is the major north-south arterial road for the growth suburbs of Alfredton and Lucas, but under Labor, has become increasingly congested.
Our plan to duplicate Dyson Drive will improve the movement of people and freight through Ballarat’s key residential growth area and the Ballarat West Employment Zone and will help create a stronger north-south transport corridor through Ballarat’s west.
The City of Ballarat’s own figures show average daily traffic on Dyson Drive rose from 6,529 in 2016 to 10,490 in 2021.
This project will cost $115.1 million, offset by more than $24.5 billion in responsible and disciplined savings, including a hiring freeze on back-office bureaucrats.
Construction on this project will commence during a Liberal and Nationals Government’s first term.
Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson, said: “Ballarat’s west is one of the fastest-growing parts of regional Victoria, but its roads haven’t kept pace. Families in Alfredton and Lucas are stuck in congestion every day, and it’s only getting worse.
“A government I lead will duplicate Dyson Drive and give Ballarat the dual carriageway it needs. This is about getting people home sooner, keeping freight moving and making a busy road safer.”
Leader of The Nationals and Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Danny O’Brien, said: “As with many roads throughout regional Victoria, Dyson Drive is overdue for an upgrade. Traffic is outgrowing it and daily volumes have climbed by more than 60 per cent in just five years.
“This project will ease congestion, improve safety and support jobs in the Ballarat West Employment Zone.
“The Liberals and Nationals in government will ensure regional Victoria gets its fair share of infrastructure spending, and we will deliver this for the people of the electorates of Wendouree and Ripon.”
Shadow Minister for Transport Infrastructure, Evan Mulholland said: “Duplicating Dyson Drive is a vital step in building the Ballarat Link Road and a stronger north-south corridor through Ballarat’s west.
“This is an example of practical, well-costed infrastructure that Ballarat’s growing communities deserve.”
