Victoria’s roads are falling apart, yet the Allan Labor Government is forcing our skilled road workers to find jobs in Queensland.
Today in Parliament, Labor failed to address why a contractor’s crew of 10 workers from Ballarat had to be sent over 2000 kilometres to Far North Queensland for six weeks because there’s no work left for them in Victoria.
While our roads are riddled with potholes and hazards, Labor’s “maintenance blitz” promises have proven empty.
The Department of Transport’s latest annual report reveals road repairs in Victoria plummeted by a staggering 95 per cent over the past year, while not a single new road resurfacing contract has been issued since the so-called blitz began.
Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Danny O’Brien, condemned Labor’s neglect of our roads.
“Victorians are being treated like fools by a government still talking about ‘record maintenance blitzes’ while our roads are falling apart and our workers are forced to leave the state to find work.
“Contractors are laying off road workers due to a lack of available projects.
“When will this government stop with the spin and start fixing our roads?
“It’s time for the Allan Labor Government to end the excuses, cut the spin, bring our workers home, and repair the roads that are essential to our safety and daily lives.
“Labor can’t manage money, can’t manage our roads and Victorians are paying the price.”
