The Nationals in government will invest $4.3 million towards the $7.3 million
redevelopment of Quarry Hill Recreation Reserve at Ken Wust Oval, delivering modern
facilities for local sporting clubs, community groups and residents.
The project will be delivered in partnership with the City of Greater Bendigo, which has
committed $3 million. The redevelopment will deliver:
Modern change rooms and dedicated umpire facilities.
Female-friendly and accessible amenities, including all-abilities access.
A new multi-purpose community room.
Upgraded kitchen, kiosk and social facilities.
Additional sporting equipment storage.
Improved spectator and event spaces.
Community Hall improvements and shared-use facilities.
The precinct is home to West Bendigo Cricket Club, Bendigo East Baseball Club and
Quarry Hill Junior Football Club, as well as local schools and community groups. More
than 215 participants currently use the site, with strong growth expected in women’s
and junior sport.
“Quarry Hill is a growing community and local families deserve facilities that keep pace
with that growth,” The Nationals candidate for Bendigo East, Andrew Lethlean, said.
“This redevelopment will give local clubs, volunteers and community groups modern
facilities they can use year-round, while making the precinct more accessible and
welcoming for everyone.”
“These facilities are no longer meeting the needs of growing participation, particularly
for women and girls,” The Nationals Member for Northern Victoria, Gaelle Broad, said.
“This investment will create a modern community hub that supports sport, local events,
schools and community activities for years to come”
“Regional communities deserve their fair share of infrastructure investment, and this is
exactly the kind of practical project that delivers for local communities,” Leader of The
Nationals and Shadow Minister for Regional Development and Liveability, Danny
O’Brien, said.
“With the City of Greater Bendigo putting $3 million on the table, The Nationals in
government will provide the funding needed to get this shovel-ready project across the
line.”
The redevelopment will increase participation in women’s and junior sport, improve
accessibility and provide a valuable community venue for local events, meetings and
activities.
This project will be funded through The Nationals’ Fair Share Guarantee, which ensures
regional Victoria receives its fair share of infrastructure funding. With around 25 per cent
of Victorians living in regional communities, it is only fair that at least 25 per cent of
state infrastructure spending is invested back into the regions.
