Yes our town of Orbost always has something going on. No police around when needed. Our business was robbed years ago and with all the footage and evidence the police had nothing got done about it at all. No one has ever been charged either.

In the last 3 years we have had shed ( shipping containers) burgled 3 times $10k worth of items. We have had fences knocked down and 4wd’s driving through the property 2 times. On one occasion I confronted them and they tried to run me over. Police were called but never attended or followed up ( even though I had video proof and number plate) . We have also had firewood stolen.

We recently bought our first property, and with the ongoing fuel and cost of living crisis had decided to try switch to a bike for my commute to work so that my pregnant wife had access to the car and minimise use otherwise. Two nights in and someone has stolen our bike, already, when I was younger – 21 for reference currently, we used to feel safe leaving our bikes, scooters etc in our front yard, with our first child on the way it’s sad we won’t be able to have the same level of neighbourly safety with them.

My shop was broken into 6 times and attempted breaks in 3 more times Same bunch youths No lock up no victims of crime due to it’s been a shop Insurance their the roof Ended up moving shops

We’ve got a small supermarket and in the last 12 months it’s gotten to the point where we’re having a conversation about whether it’s even worth staying open. Shoplifting every other day, a couple of proper break-ins, one of my staff got shoved by a kid who couldn’t have been older than 15. She didn’t come back after that. I don’t blame her. We’ve reported everything, done everything right, and honestly I’m not sure what we’re supposed to do next. We can’t afford a security guard. We’re not a Coles. This is our livelihood and it feels like no one actually cares what happens to businesses like ours out here.
