The fire season is already upon us and too many Victorians are understandably uneasy in how unprepared our state has become.

 

350 Forest Fire Management Victoria trucks are still offline, with no clear explanation from the Allan Labor Government on when they’ll be back in service.

 

Worryingly, Victoria is borrowing old, decommissioned trucks from New South Wales and South Australia because its own fleet can’t be brought online.

Planned burns have also fallen to just one per cent of public land, well short of the Royal Commission’s recommended five per cent target — meaning fuel loads remain high and communities are more vulnerable than they should be.

 

Victorians deserve confidence that the government has done everything possible to prepare for one of most dangerous seasons.

 

Instead, families are being left to hope for the best.

 

A Nationals and Liberals Government will put preparation first because lives depend on it.

 

Labor can’t manage emergency services and Victorians are paying the price.
