Prevention and early intervention programs run by Kilmany Uniting Care in East Gippsland have received a significant boost with the announcement of $800,000 in funding.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said Kilmany will receive the funding as part of a $100 million three-year funding package for the Communities for Children (CfC) program initiated by the previous Coalition Government.
“The Communities for Children program which was started by the previous Coalition Government will continue to be run in East Gippsland for at least the next three years,” Mr Chester said.
“It will enable continued support provided by Kilmany Uniting Care for children and families at risk of disadvantage in East Gippsland.”
Mr Chester, who is a member of Parliamentarians against Child Abuse and Neglect, said there will be numerous benefits provided by Kilmany to children and families at risk of disadvantage in East Gippsland.
“The Communities for Children program provides support for children and families at risk of disadvantage through prevention and early intervention programs,” Mr Chester said.
“The program specifically targets the families of newborn children through to the age of 12.
“It will enable these children and their families to also benefit from early learning, literacy, and nutrition programs as well as child friendly community events.”
Mr Chester said he had previously made representations to State and Federal Ministers in relation to funding to further assist Kilmany in obtaining resources to improve their support for children and families in East Gippsland.
“I wrote to the State and Federal Ministers seeking their assistance to enable the work conducted by Kilmany Uniting Care to support children and families in East Gippsland to continue,” Mr Chester said.
“When it comes to the health and welfare of children in regional communities, the Government must do everything in its power to make sure that they have opportunities to achieve their full potential.”
