David O’Brien represents the Western Victoria region in the Legislative Council. Prior to his election in 2010 David was a Barrister of the Supreme Court of Victoria, specialising in property, valuation, planning and environmental law. He holds a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Economics at Monash University.
David has been a member of the National Party since 2002 and in 2009 was elected to the position of Junior Vice-President of the Victorian Division. Prior to that David served as South West Coast Branch Secretary, as a State Councillor from 2005 to 2008 and was a delegate to Federal Council in 2009. He has also served as the Vice President of Ratepayers Victoria and Vice President of Advance Penshurst.
David is 42 years old and married, with four young children. In 1997 he purchased land at Penshurst, which is part of a farming business that has been continuously farmed by his family since 1853.
As a member of the Penshurst Football and Netball Club David played in the 2003 Reserves Premiership with his three brothers. He is also interested in music, heritage, community and regional development.
